Casal Català NSW organised the most traditional Christmas event, the Caga Tió, and invited us to perform on the day, in Meadowbank.
Caga Tió is the favourite celebration for kids, as there’s nothing better than having the opportunity of getting some presents before lunch!! In this case, kids gather around the Tió, made of a log with a smiley face, cover him with a blanket and sing while they beat him with sticks. Well, it doesn’t sound like a lovely and charming way to celebrate Christmas but it’s what tradition dictates ;-p
As going directly to the hitting point could have been a bit too straightforward, first the children spent some time making their own little Tiós. And later on, it was the right time to sing and find their presents under the Tió’s blanket!
And what’s next?? Human Towers!! What else??
Although we had considered the option of trying a 6 levels castle, we didn’t have enough people to arrange a proper crowd and therefore we preferred to keep on the safe side and restrain towers to 5 levels.
As during the rehearsals we don’t count with too many people either, we’re getting used to build neat structures, and that’s what we did also on the day.
Easy and quick, we were familiar with them and didn’t try anything out of our comfort zone. It’s so nice to see that what today is “just 5 levels towers to not leave the comfort zone”, one year ago had been our outstanding achievement to close the season!
After the performance we made sure that the newbies who had participated in an event for their very first time had their traditional group picture… and we threw plenty of water over them as our own tradition states!
Actually, it was so sunny and hot that everybody started a water fight! And kids were really well prepared as some of them had received from the Tió water guns, the perfect gift!!
